We love the pre-set template options and the ability to scrape the web. Team was very great on helping us great custom templates!

Contras:

We like the customer support, but since we are based in the USA… responses are not at an ideal time for our team. We know we will have to wait at least 12 hours to hear back. We'd also love more detailed tutorials on how to customize our own templates. We are new to the "web scraping" world and sometimes need a quick data extraction which are usually not worth the time or money for a legit template.

It's a more accessible way to scrape data and it's easy to use, even for beginners. The team is also responsive to my concerns.

Contras:

I'm still navigating through the tool and so far, I wish there are some features such as an "undo" button.

Bad company!

Comentarios: We tried octoparse in the free trial version but found out that their data-extraction is illegal in the EU. So we stopped. But we had to give creditcard info before we could start. They took the money but right away and refuse to refund.
So watch out with this company. It's scam and fraud and once you try to address any issue they don't react.
ONE OF THE WORST EVER !!!

Hardly anything was good about the product and especially the company itself. It's seems like fraud!!!

Longterm Octoparse Customer - Fan for Life

Comentarios: No complaints what so ever. I have had a subscription for 6 years. That says a lot.

Puntos a favor:

I appreciate how easy the application is to get basic scraping, but the standout is the support staff. They will help you or even just fix it themselves. I recently had a job need changes. I was out of the country and did not have a reliable internet connection. A quick email to support and less than a day later, I was back getting data.

Contras:

Octoparse includes many default templates, but they are "black boxes". I would really like to be able to open them and see how they are working. It would to better understand how to make my own scripts work better.

The easy way of setting up things and run the task, if done in a correct way you can save a lot of time.

Contras:

Sometimes when there is a new update a review of created jobs is required to ensure a smooth run.

Comentarios: Overall great, sometimes there are some limitations to the whole parsing thing, but they are always trying to add ways to make it easier.

Puntos a favor:

I like how responsive and intuitive (to me at least) the tool is overall. Can't do much about the websites themselves but the tool itself when everything is aligned is excellent and does the job consistently and accurately. All this without needing much more than installing one app and not having to do many things and libraries and code. The support is always available and helpful too, which is a major plus.

Contras:

There are some features that are still missing, like maybe a "production-chain" type where a task finishing triggers another task using that data, but I guess they are planning on adding many more features in the future.

Continues service with least interruption rate and quick responses from the support team.

Contras:

Some tasks are not possible to modify. Also, Cloudflare bypass was limited to popular websites. Other websites might need extra credits to bypass.

Excellent Web Scraping Tool for Beginners

Comentarios: Easy to use. The directions are straight forward. It's been a game changer for me. I have been able import data from web to a spreadsheet in minutes, and that has decreased the manual work I had to do when retrieving data.

Puntos a favor:

Logging into sites where it is required before scraping. Editing tasks before scraping and exporting it to Excel Spreadsheets.

Contras:

I am unable to scrape documents from a downloaded file (Word/PDF doc).

Comentarios: The best automated web scrapper I have ever used. I have been using it for more than a year now and it has helped me so much in my data collection.

Puntos a favor:

The best thing about Octoparse is that it gets all the critical components just perfect for you to start web scraping.

Contras:

The auto-detection of the webpage can be a hindrance. At times, you would need to manually build the scraping automation to get it right.

Great for non-technical teams, amazing customer service

Comentarios: Amazing. Definitely recommend especially if you're looking for an effective way to extract data and you don't want to spend the time writing code to do it.

The customer service team is incredible. Super attentive and very helpful.

Contras:

It does require a little bit of a learning curve, but that's because the tech is quite sophisticated. And the customer service team was always so responsive that it made up for the time spent trying to figure out the software.

Experience: I have been looking professional web scraper for about two months now. I did try so many software's. Some was hidden mist! Most did not work at all. Then I did end up to get Octoparse web scraper! Wau! That cloud base software was exactly what I was looking for! This software really works. Software works even with some of the complex website. Comentarios: When we were looking for an appropriate scraping software we tried every scraping program available on the market. After some days of testing it turned out that Octoparse is exactly that what we were looking for. This great and powerful tool completely outclasses competition in most of hard tasks: -it can load and pass through very complex and big websites
-you can set more complex logic which is very useful even if rarely used
-there are practically no websites that Octoparse can't load, doesn't matter on what base and system they were built
-friendly environment, with easy to use GUI
-great support with honest, and kind people.
-and everything without a single line of script which is great! There are, of course, some cons too, because nothing is perfect and that's a normal thing.
Sometimes program hangs on some sites. After some observations, it came out that it is not a website problem. It happens on sites that are built similar to for example Wikipedia, which construction is practically the same under every link. Probably it is not the API in workflow for designer too, because it is about simple: loop by list of URL -> extract data. Especially when there are more links. Sometimes it shows that site is still loading, sometimes just hangs on one opened page for hours to then just move on. I note that I used all program options, including advanced options too including timeout limit, reload web page and every other option. Nothing has helped. Finally, functionalities and enhancements that can be added in the future to Octoparse, to further improve it: Example situation: We add a 100 links to the program and 17 of them failed to execute. We found out that reload website option is unclear. If we e.g. use proxy and the connection will fail with it, we can now use other proxy or few proxies depending on settings. It will be great if i.e. one proxy will fail at connection in specified number of attempts (let's say 5-15 attempts) then Octoparse will delete this proxy or mark it as malfunctioning and avoid it in the future, still returning these 17 bad link in scores. And it will be even better if score list after export will have links that failed to execute, just mark them in a separate column, or add website status error code or something. This can help in retry to get data from the websites that failed to load.

Some websites need to modify the XPath if you want to exactly get the data you want. This would be a little difficult for me at first. But with the help of abundant tutorials and XPath tool, I finally got it!

Dont ever try the trial version

Comentarios: The trial version likes to create a trap for their user. They send a notification on the expired trial version on 7 days before and 2 minute before. For me is crazy to get 2 minute before notification. So if you kind a person how likes to forget the expired time of your trial version don't ever try this app, not worthty.

I try to crawl some literature databased from google scholar using their template, but it doesn't work well since google detected it as a robot. So totally crawl all the data was imposible, the system will stopped before finished the entired data crawling.

Octoparse has a great feature set and attractive pricing. Among scraping software, it's a strong contender for one of the most user-friendly and feature-rich.

Contras:

Too bad it's only an option if you're on Windows. Agencies and other environments that tend to be Mac shops won't be able to consider it.

Great Data extraction tool!

Cost . I'm a Sales manager and have to deal with massive profiles of customer. Every info was unstructured data and was hard to read through, which caused much headache. There are a lot ways to scrape data from several different sites. Ocotparse also offers lots of tutorials if you are unsure of how to scrape data from certain sites.

Contras:

There are some features that might be hard to understand how to use if you do not have a basic understanding of coding. Ocotparse does provide many how to guides to help those that do not have a good background in coding.

Comentarios: I try to crawl some literature ecom articles using their template, but it doesn't work, it kept to freeze. So crawling the data was impossible, the system will stopped before finished the entire data crawling.

An easy web scraping tool for newbie

Comentarios: Octoparse is very easy to start an scraping task for newbie even though you don't need anything about programming. It is really very easy and convenient to use. Also, it could extract data from almost every website, websites with infinite scrolling down like Facebook and Twitter, websites requiring loggin like LinkedIn, websites with pagination, etc.
However, sometimes it is stuck and would take quite a long time to extract the data in local machine. The cloud service is much better but it still has some problems.
Hope it could improve the stability to make it a more user-friendly software.
